EU-supported Tetritskaro LAG raises funds to help vulnerable families and children during Covid-19 crisis

09/07/2020
May 15, 2020. Tetritskaro. To overcome the crisis caused by the spread of the novel Coronavirus, the EU-supported Tetritskaro Local Action Group (LAG) together with the local government and the Association Rural Development for Future Georgia (RDFG) has raised funds to help the most vulnerable families in the Tetritskaro municipality. With the funds mobilized so far, 8 school students in the different villages of the Tetritskaro Municipality, including ethnic minorities, have already received computers. Tetritskaro LAG continues raising funds to help other local vulnerable families.
As a result of the state of emergency declared in Georgia due to COVID-19, many people temporarily or permanently lost their jobs and have been left without source of income. The Tetritskaro Municipality was quarantined after dozens of people infected with Covid-19 were identified in April 2020. Many of the local households are no longer able to support themselves and feed their children. Many schoolchildren, with limited access to computers and internet, are disconnected from the outside world and thus fail to attend school remotely.
The Tetritskaro LAG, together with the local government and Association Rural Development for Future Georgia (RDFG), identified the target groups in need in the municipality and raised funds in order to help them. “There are many vulnerable families in our municipality who need our help. Only with a joint effort and rapid response can we overcome the crisis caused by the pandemic. If you have any funds or items to donate, especially computers, smartphones or tablets for pupils, please contact us at Tetritskaro LAG,” – states LAG Directors Nino Tikurishvili.
Information concerning the donation and supported families will be permanently updated on the LAG webpage www.tetritskarolag.ge and www.rdfg.ge.
Tetritskaro Local Action Group was established with the support of the EU’s ENPARD project “Rural Development for Sustainable Growth in the Tetritskaro Municipality” implemented by Association Rural Development for Future Georgia (RDFG) in the municipality. Tetritskaro LAG is one among the twelve LAGs created with the EU support in different municipalities across Georgia.
The EU is supporting agriculture and rural development in Georgia through the ENPARD programme. The programme is implemented in Georgia since 2013 with a total budget of EUR 179.5 million. More information on ENPARD is available at www.enpard.ge.
